Constellation Academic Terms
Effective October 7, 2026. Version academic-terms-2026-10.
What this is
The academic tier gives people who study, teach, or do research at an academic institution the Developer plan allowances at no cost. These Academic Terms add to the Constellation terms of service and privacy policy that already apply to your account; they do not replace them. Where the two differ on the academic tier, these terms apply.
This is a plain-language agreement. If something here is unclear, ask us at contact@constellation.space before you accept.
Who can use it
You need a verified email address at an academic institution: a domain ending in .edu, .ac or .edu followed by a country code (for example .ac.uk or .edu.au), or an institution we list by name. Verified means you confirmed the address with the code we sent, or your sign-in provider confirmed it for us.
You must be a current student, faculty member, researcher, or staff member at that institution, and you must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live. One academic account per person. We may ask you to confirm your affiliation, and we may end the academic tier on an account that does not qualify.
What you get
Your account gets the same monthly allowances as the Developer plan: live predictions, telemetry ingest, and assistant turns, as listed on the Billing page. There is no subscription, no card on file, and no charge for the academic tier itself.
The allowances reset each calendar month (UTC). When you reach an allowance, further requests of that kind are refused until it resets. Usage past an allowance is never charged, and the academic tier never bills you for anything.
Your account shows an Academic label so you can see the tier is active.
How you may use it
Use the academic tier for research, teaching, coursework, theses, and other non-commercial projects. Publishing papers, posters, and open-source code that use Constellation is welcome.
Do not use the academic tier for paid work, for a commercial product or service, or on behalf of a company. Do not share your API keys, resell access, or open several academic accounts to get more allowance. Commercial use needs a paid plan.
Paid plans and billing
If you also subscribe to a paid plan, the paid plan applies while it is active, including its own rules and prices for usage past the allowance; the academic tier never lowers it. If you cancel the paid plan, your account returns to the academic allowances for as long as you still qualify, not to the Free plan.
How long it lasts
The academic tier lasts while your account email is a verified academic address. If you change your email to one that does not qualify, the academic tier ends the next time you sign in, and your account returns to any paid plan you hold, or to the Free plan.
We may pause the academic program. While it is paused, your account uses any paid plan you hold, or the Free plan; your acceptance stays on record and the academic allowances return when the program resumes.
We may change or end the academic program. We will give at least 30 days notice by email before ending it or reducing its allowances, except where we must act sooner to stop abuse or comply with law.
Your affiliation and how we may mention it
By accepting, you agree that while you actively use the academic tier, Constellation may state the fact of your affiliation on its platform and in its marketing. For example: "used by researchers at" followed by the name of your institution, or the count of institutions whose researchers use Constellation.
We will not name you personally, quote you, or use your picture without asking you separately.
This permission comes from you, for your own affiliation. You cannot give us permission to use your institution's logo, seal, colors, or other trademarks, or to suggest that your institution endorses, sponsors, or partners with Constellation. Only the institution can grant that, and we will get its written permission before doing any of those things.
You can withdraw this permission at any time by writing to contact@constellation.space; you can keep using the academic tier. We stop new uses based on your affiliation within 30 days of your request, or of the day you stop using the academic tier. Materials already printed or published before then may stay as they are.
What we record
When you accept, we store the version of these terms you accepted, when you accepted them, your email domain, and the institution domain we derived from it. We use this record to run the academic tier, to show you your status, and to show what you agreed to. It is kept with your account and handled under our privacy policy.
Changes to these terms
Each version of these terms has its own version label, shown below. If we change them, we will show you the new version and ask you to accept it before the academic tier continues. If you do not accept, the academic tier ends and your account returns to any paid plan you hold, or to the Free plan.
